Last month, the value of imports of goods in Hong Kong increased 41 percent over a year earlier to 677.4 billion Hong Kong dollars, according to the Census and Statistics Department of the HKSAR government.

For the first seven months of 2026, the value of total exports of goods increased by 40.9 percent from a year ago. Concurrently, the value of imports of goods increased by 40.6 percent year on year, the data showed.

Total exports to Asia as a whole grew 54.6 percent in July from a year ago.

A spokesperson for the HKSAR government said that merchandise exports surged further in July, with exports of AI-related electronic products again registering particularly impressive growth. Also, exports to most major markets continued to increase visibly.

The spokesperson expected robust global demand for AI-related electronic products to continue supporting Hong Kong's merchandise trade performance.
