Major mudslide hits Xizang border port, causing casualties and leaving people missing

A major mudslide hit the area around the Gyirong Port in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region at 10:59 a.m. on Wednesday, the Xigaze government said in a statement.

The mudslide originated in Nepal and swept into the Gyirong Port area, causing casualties and leaving some people missing, the statement said.

Roads leading to Gyirong Port, as well as communications and power supplies in the area, have been cut off.

Following the mudslide, the Xigaze authorities launched an emergency response and sent multiple rescue teams to the site to search for missing people. They are also treating the injured and moving the affected residents to safety, the statement said.
