BEIJING, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- A mudslide in Nepal caused severe casualties at the Gyirong Port in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region on Wednesday morning, prompting an immediate mobilization of emergency power supply forces, according to the State Grid Corporation of China on Thursday.

Gyirong Port, located in Gyirong Town of Gyirong County, Xigaze City, is a major land port connecting China and Nepal. The mudslide occurred on Wednesday morning in Nepal, resulting in three people dead and 265 missing at Gyirong Port as of 8 p.m., according to initial estimates.

In the wake of the disaster, the State Grid Xizang Electric Power Company Limited has been racing against time to assemble emergency power supply resources in Gyirong Town. As of 4 a.m. Thursday, 85 emergency repair personnel, seven power generating vehicles, two generators and 19 sets of lighting equipment had arrived at the site.

Meanwhile, an additional 30 personnel, five power generating vehicles, 42 generators and 18 sets of lighting equipment have been transported from nearby areas to Gyirong, the company said, vowing to win the battle of ensuring power supply for disaster relief following the Gyirong mudslide.

Going forward, the company will dynamically reinforce its emergency response teams, stockpile and deploy supplies and equipment, and refine power supply plans to advance all emergency power supply work safely and efficiently.

The Ministry of Emergency Management and the National Fire and Rescue Administration have dispatched 111 firefighters and rescue personnel from the China Search and Rescue team to the disaster-hit site.

The first charted plane of the rescue team arrived at an airport in Xigaze city on early morning Thursday.
