China on Thursday voiced strong dissatisfaction with and firm opposition to the US using cybersecurity issues as an excuse to throw mud at China.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian made the remark at a regular press briefing in Beijing in response to a statement released by the US on Wednesday, which alleged it had disrupted a Chinese hacking operation targeting US critical infrastructure and other sensitive networks.

"China firmly opposes and cracks down on hacking activities in accordance with the law," Lin said. "At the same time, we firmly oppose spreading false information for political purposes. The so-called statement released by the US lacks evidence and distorts the truth."

"China is strongly dissatisfied with and firmly opposes the US using cybersecurity issues to smear China," he said.
