China stated on Monday that the essence of China-US economic and trade relations is mutual benefit and win-win cooperation. China never seeks trade surpluses and opposes all forms of unilateral tariffs.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun made the remarks when asked about relevant comments by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

"We remain committed to high-standard opening-up and sharing China's large market to provide new opportunities for all parties, including the US," Guo said. "China and the US should jointly act on the important common understandings reached between the two heads of state, resolve relevant issues on the basis of equality, mutual respect and mutual benefit, and preserve the hard-won positive momentum in the current economic and trade field."
