China on Monday expressed deep condolences over the passing of Norway's King Harald V, saying the monarch had made important contributions to friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun made the remarks at a regular press conference in Beijing.
Guo said King Harald V was deeply respected and loved by the Norwegian people and had actively promoted friendship between China and Norway during his lifetime. He visited China several times and made important contributions to bilateral cooperation and exchanges, Guo said.
"China expresses deep condolences over his passing and extends sincere sympathies to the Norwegian royal family, government and people," Guo said.
