Nearly 100 Chinese citizens remain unaccounted for in disaster-hit areas of Nepal: FM spokesperson

Asked about foreign nationals reported missing on the Chinese side following the mudslide in Nepal and the situation of Chinese citizens in Nepal, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Wednesday that the ministry also briefed the embassies of relevant countries in China on Tuesday and as of now, 261 foreign nationals from 23 countries have been identified as missing in the disaster.

China stands ready to maintain communication, coordination and cooperation with all parties in follow-up efforts to locate the missing people, Guo said. Nearly 100 Chinese citizens remain unaccounted for in disaster-hit areas of Nepal, and China appreciates Nepal's assistance and hopes the Nepali side will continue its rescue and evacuation efforts, he added.
