This year's forum aims to build a high-level international platform for sci-tech innovation exchanges and cooperation, according to the ministry.
Based on the global perspective and the country's strategic priorities, it will focus on basic research, frontier disruptive technologies and the cultivation of future-oriented industries, striving to foster an open, fair, just, and non-discriminatory global environment for scientific and technological development.
The opening ceremony and the main forum will be held on Sept. 12, featuring keynote speeches by dignitaries, heads of research institutions and experts, followed by a major dialogue on the theme of the "basic research driving the development of future-oriented industries," according to the forum's organizer.
During the forum, 24 sub-forums will be organized under three major sections -- basic research, future industries and innovation ecosystems -- spanning fields such as brain-inspired intelligence, quantum intelligent computing, synthetic biology and commercial spaceflight.
To date, representatives from over 50 countries and regions and more than 20 international organizations have already registered to attend this year's Pujiang Innovation Forum.
Leveraging the sci-tech innovation strengths of Shanghai and the Yangtze River Delta, this year's forum will select and announce 10 representative fundamental scientific questions, unveil a batch of significant technological achievements, and publish several important research reports. Additionally, a series of exchange activities will be organized for young science and technology talent.
Initiated in 2008, the Pujiang Innovation Forum is an annual event organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the municipal government of Shanghai. The guest country of honor this year is South Africa.
