Ministry Minutes | China to keep releasing updates on Gyirong rescue efforts: foreign ministry

China will continue to provide timely updates on rescue operations in the Gyirong disaster zone, the foreign ministry said on Monday.

International media had been closely following the mudslide and hoped to enter the area to report on the situation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Mao Ning said at a routine press briefing in Beijing.

After round-the-clock repair work restored access, the Chinese side invited journalists from eight foreign media outlets including NBC News, CNN, Reuters, RT and Press Trust of India to enter the area and learn about the impact of the disaster and progress in rescue, recovery and reconstruction, Mao said.

“The journalists also attended a meeting with Chinese and foreign reporters organized by Xizang Autonomous Region,” Mao said.

China would continue to make every effort to carry out search and rescue operations as well as post-disaster response work, she said.
