Mudslides, landslides leave 6 dead, 9 missing in east China's Jiangxi

NANCHANG, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- Six people have been confirmed dead and nine others remain missing after a series of mudslides and landslides struck Suichuan County in east China's Jiangxi Province.

In Mingkeng Village in Gaoping Township, a mudslide and landslide on Saturday left five dead and seven others missing as of Tuesday noon, according to local officials.

After days of torrential rain, one person was confirmed dead and two others were reported missing after landslides struck Zuo'an Township and Tanghu Township in the same county.

Search and rescue operations, road reinforcement and prevention of secondary disasters are underway.
