Ministry Minutes | China tells US to stop making groundless accusations against Chinese AI companies

China on Wednesday called on the US to refrain from making false accusations against Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) companies.

The remark was made by foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning at a regular press briefing in Beijing in response to media reports that the US has accused some Chinese AI companies of "copying" cutting-edge technologies from their US counterparts.

"China's development of AI is the result of high-level self-reliance and self-strengthening in science and technology," she said. "It also benefits from China's consistent commitment to the concepts of extensive consultation, joint contribution, shared benefits and open cooperation. We have always believed that all parties should enhance cooperation to promote the open, inclusive, beneficial and virtuous development of artificial intelligence and serve the well-being of all mankind."

Mao said it is hoped that the US can earnestly implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state and refrain from making false accusations and slandering China.

"Both China and the US are major countries in AI and should enhance cooperation," she noted.
