China expressed deep concern over the escalating situation of Yemen and the Red Sea in recent days and deemed attacks on civilian facilities essential to people's livelihoods were unacceptable, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said on Monday.

Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Guo Jiakun made the remarks after Yemen's Houthi group launched attacks on four cities in southern Saudi Arabia that have left more than 70 civilians injured and damaged various energy and civilian facilities.

"Intensifying regional turmoil serves no party's interest. Each country's sovereignty and security should be respected," the spokesperson said. "Resolving disputes through political and diplomatic channels is the only way out."

China calls on relevant parties to maintain restraint, ease tensions through dialogue and facilitate a rapid de-escalation of the situation, Guo said.
