Guangdong products roadshow opens in Fiji to boost trade between China and Pacific Island countries

SUVA, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- The 2026 roadshow of Guangdong products in Pacific Island countries was held in Suva, the capital of Fiji, on Tuesday, aiming to deepen economic and trade ties between China, Fiji, and other Pacific Island countries, as well as to explore new opportunities for cooperation.

Under the theme "Guangdong Smart Manufacturing: Powering a Greener Fiji," the event features a comprehensive display of the advancements and products of China's Guangdong Province in artificial intelligence, consumer electronics, and new energy storage.

While addressing the event, Fijian Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica said Guangdong's experience in advanced manufacturing, digital technology, renewable energy and smart appliances could complement Fiji's development priorities.

He expressed the hope that Guangdong investment would deliver jobs and greater opportunities for Fijian businesses to access the Chinese market.

Currently, economic and trade ties between China and Fiji are steadily intensifying.

Bilateral trade between the two countries reached 652 million U.S. dollars in 2025, an increase of 22 percent year on year, said Guangdong Vice Governor Zhang Guozhi, noting that the growth of economic and trade ties between Guangdong and Fiji has been particularly impressive, with bilateral trade volume reaching 67.28 million dollars in the first half of this year, a surge of 87.3 percent year on year.

Moving forward, Zhang said Guangdong will deepen cooperation with Fiji by focusing its efforts on expanding investment, deepening digital trade and economic collaboration, and enhancing industrial and commercial cooperation.

Wang Yuan, chargé d'affaires a.i. of the Chinese Embassy in Fiji, stated that the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Fiji has continued to deepen, with economic and trade cooperation serving as a vital pillar of bilateral relations.

Tuesday's event was the seventh road show of Guangdong products in Pacific Island countries, organized by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Guangdong Committee since 2016. It serves as an important platform for business exchanges, market alignment, and practical cooperation between enterprises from China and the Pacific Island nations.
