Textile factory fire in south China's Guangdong kills 8

Eight people were killed and one was injured after a fire broke out Sunday at a textile factory in Foshan City, south China's Guangdong Province, local authorities said Monday.

The fire was reported at 3:12 p.m. Sunday at a factory in Changxing industrial park in Jun'an Township, Shunde District in Foshan. Firefighters brought the blaze under control at 3:45 p.m. and extinguished visible flames by 4:10 p.m., according to Shunde's emergency management department.

The fire occurred in a two-story brick-and-concrete factory building used for denim washing and other types of production. It burned about 200 square meters and did not spread to other areas.

A total of 63 people were rescued or evacuated from the site and nearby areas.

Search and rescue operations at the scene have concluded. The injured person is receiving hospital treatment. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
