Flaky mooncake village makes overseas shipments

Boxiangcun Food Co., Ltd., a mooncake producer in Huangzhuang village, North China's Hebei Province, shipped its pastries overseas for the first time this year, sending three shipments to Australia and South Korea worth more than 1 million yuan (nearly $150,000).

The company shipped 20,000 boxes to Australia in July and 60,000 boxes to South Korea in August and September.

Huangzhuang's mooncakes have a flaky crust, unlike the Cantonese-style mooncakes more commonly sold overseas,  and are a rare find outside China.

The village has made mooncakes for decades.

What started as household workshops has grown into an industry with more than 100 mooncake businesses and the village's mooncake output reportedly exceeded 100 million yuan in 2025.
