In numbers: 2.142 billion trips during China's National Day holiday
China's National Day holiday saw over 2.142 billion cross-regional passenger trips, according to the Ministry of Transport, with road travel accounting for the bulk of the movement.
National railways carried 25.2 million passengers in a single day on October 1, setting a new record for daily railway trips, data from China State Railway Group showed.
China's National Day box office, advance sales included, topped 1.165 billion yuan ($173.80 million) as of October 7.
Consumption also picked up, with passenger traffic and revenue at 78 monitored pedestrian streets and shopping districts rising by 2.5% and 4.7% year on year, respectively, from October 1 to 6, according to the Ministry of Commerce.
The country’s trade-in program for consumer goods drove 33.48 billion yuan in sales and benefited 6.39 million person-trips during the same period.
Data from Trip.com pointed to a travel boom. The golden week is emerging as a prime season for inbound travelers arriving for the festival. Inbound travel posted double-digit growth, with inbound one-day tour orders jumping more than four-fold, attraction ticket bookings up by over 220%, and train ticket bookings up by over 170% year on year.
