Chen's case has been filed by the Chuzhou Municipal People's Procuratorate in east China's Anhui Province with the Intermediate People's Court of Chuzhou, the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) said on Friday.

Chen is accused of taking advantage of his various former positions in east China's Zhejiang Province and Xinjiang to secure profits for others and illegally accepting an extremely large amount of money and valuables in return, the SPP said.

The prosecution follows the conclusion of an investigation by the National Commission of Supervision into Chen's case and the SPP's decision to arrest him on suspicion of taking bribes.

Chen, then a member of the standing committee of the Xinjiang regional committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), was placed under investigation in November 2025 for suspected serious violations of Party discipline and the law.

An official statement in June said Chen had been expelled from the CPC and dismissed from public office.

Chen was investigated by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the CPC and the National Commission of Supervision, according to the statement.

Authorities said that Chen had violated the Party's political and organizational discipline, as well as discipline regarding integrity and life. His actions amounted to serious duty-related violations and are suspected to constitute the crime of bribery.

Chen's case was "particularly serious with an extremely negative impact," the statement said.

The decision was also made to confiscate Chen's illicit gains and revoke his qualification as a delegate to the 20th CPC National Congress, according to the statement.
