Ministry Minutes | Nothing Lai Ching-te says or does can change the doomed fate of 'Taiwan independence' separatism: foreign ministry
China said Monday that nothing Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te says or does can change the historical and legal fact that Taiwan belongs to China. It cannot alter the doomed failure of "Taiwan independence" or stop the overwhelming trend that China will ultimately be reunified.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Mao Ning made the remarks at a routine press briefing in Beijing after Lai Ching-te sought to solicit external support for "Taiwan independence" in a speech in Taipei on Saturday.
Mao said there is only one China in the world, Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory, and the Government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China. Upholding the one-China principle, opposing "Taiwan independence" separatism and supporting China's reunification represent the shared aspirations of the international community.
No matter what Lai says or does, it can't change the historical and legal fact that Taiwan belongs to China, nor can it alter the doomed failure of "Taiwan independence," still less can it stop the overwhelming trend that China will ultimately be reunified, she said.
"The so-called democracy touted by Lai cannot disguise his separatist agenda," said Mao.
Taiwan's return to China is an important part of the victorious outcomes of World War II and the post-war international order, Mao stressed.
