Whampoa Military Academy Memorial Hall stands on Changzhou Island in the Huangpu district, where Sun Yat-sen founded the famous Army Officer Academy in 1924. Established as a museum in 1984 and listed as a national key cultural relic in 1988, the site is devoted to safeguarding the academy's historic buildings and telling the story of its development. The seven-hectare grounds include the reconstructed school headquarters, Sun Yat-sen Memorial Room, former club, monuments, parks and artillery batteries. Walking among these remains offers a memorable introduction to China's revolutionary history and the people who shaped modern Guangzhou.
