China said on Wednesday that the new bridge across China's border river with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) will further boost bilateral trade and people-to-people exchanges.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Mao Ning made the remarks at a routine press briefing in Beijing in response to a question about a report that a new bridge across the Yalu River, the border river of China and the DPRK, is set to open on Thursday.

As agreed upon by China and the DPRK, the bridge will officially open on Thursday, with both sides jointly holding an opening ceremony that day, according to the spokesperson.

Calling the two countries friendly neighbors connected by mountains and rivers, Mao said the opening of the new bridge — important infrastructure for connectivity — is expected to boost bilateral trade and people-to-people exchanges, and will help enhance the well-being of both peoples.
