New energy storage covers advanced storage technologies other than traditional pumped hydro. It captures intermittent power from wind and solar and feeds electricity back to the grid on demand. It fills gaps when renewables can't generate enough power.

At the 2026 World Energy Storage Conference in Ningde, Fujian Province, CGTN's Liu Jiaxin talked to experts from South Africa, Bulgaria, Mexico, and Qatar. They have stressed that new energy storage require deeper international cooperation. They cited China's leadership in speed and scale, and called for skills transfer and better policy and regulation.
