HKSAR chief executive welcomes establishment of AIIB office in Hong Kong
HONG KONG, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- John Lee, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), met with President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), Zou Jiayi, in Hong Kong on Monday and expressed support for the AIIB's establishment of an office in Hong Kong.
Lee welcomed Zou and her delegation to visit Hong Kong. During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on further strengthening regional financial cooperation.
Lee said that the AIIB has all along supported developing economies in improving infrastructure and promoting sustainable economic development, and Hong Kong, as a member of the AIIB, has been actively supporting the AIIB's work.
With the announcement of Hong Kong's first five-year plan and the 2026 Policy Address in September, Hong Kong will continue to consolidate and enhance its financial strengths, strengthening development in areas including green finance, financial technology and offshore Renminbi business to help support the AIIB's project financing, fundraising and financial management to promote the sustainable development of infrastructure in Asia, Lee added.
Lee said he was pleased that the AIIB will soon establish an office in Hong Kong serving both financing and operational functions, demonstrating Hong Kong's role as a gateway connecting the country and the world.
He expressed the belief that the establishment of the office would create more opportunities for the local financial sector and deepen cooperation and exchanges between the two sides.
