Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Mao Ning made the remarks at a regular press briefing in response to a question about the US Treasury's proposal to include biotechnology into the US' outbound investment restrictions.
"It serves no one's interest to take discriminatory measures targeting specific countries or putting restrictions on economic, trade and investment activities based on overstretching the concept of national security," Mao said, adding that the US should abide by market economy principles, stop interfering with normal economic and trade cooperation between companies, and help keep global industrial and supply chains stable through concrete actions.
"China will closely follow relevant developments and take necessary measures to safeguard its legitimate and lawful rights and interests," Mao said.
