China has expressed strong dissatisfaction and grave concern regarding the arbitrary and excessive law enforcement actions of the British police, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Tuesday.

Spokesperson Guo Jiakun made the remarks at a regular press briefing in response to a related query.

Guo said recently, the Chinese Foreign Ministry and the Chinese Embassy in the UK have received multiple reports of Chinese nationals being detained and questioned for extended periods by UK border officials, and having their personal electronic devices – such as mobile phones – seized.

"China has lodged stern representations with the British side," Guo said, adding that the Chinese side will make every effort to safeguard the safety and legitimate rights and interests of Chinese nationals.

Guo also advised Chinese citizens planning to travel to the UK to carefully read the notices issued by the Chinese Embassy in the UK, in order to avoid inconvenience and losses.
