China has lodged solemn representations with the UK after several Chinese citizens were detained and had their electronic devices seized by British border officers, the foreign ministry said Monday.

Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun made the remarks in Beijing on Tuesday in response to a safety alert issued by the Chinese Embassy in the UK.

"China expresses strong dissatisfaction and grave concern over such arbitrary and excessive enforcement, and will fully safeguard the legitimate rights of its citizens," Guo said.

"We remind Chinese citizens planning to visit the UK to carefully read the embassy's notice to avoid inconvenience and losses," he added.
