"China stands for openness and cooperation and stays committed to working with all parties to keep global industrial and supply chains stable and secure and inject more impetus and certainty into world economy," said Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Guo Jiakun at a routine press conference in Beijing.
Guo was responding to a question by a Reuters reporter about a speech delivered by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Singapore on Tuesday.
Merz said full economic decoupling from China would be "a mistake" and that Europe and Asia must reduce "unhealthy, one-sided dependencies" in supply chains, technologies and raw materials, according to Reuters.
Guo said there was a high degree of economic complementarity between China and Germany and between China and Europe, with their industries embedded in each other and practical cooperation mutually beneficial.
"China hopes Germany and the EU will stay objective and rational, and work in the same direction with China to become reliable and predictable partners for each other, resolve differences and disputes through dialogue and consultation, keep the global industrial and supply chains stable and unimpeded, and provide greater certainty for business cooperation between our business communities," he said.
