Five children in Hubei Province were discharged from hospital on Thursday after being successfully treated for coronavirus infections.

The children are aged between two and 14, and are the first group of youngsters to be discharged. Most of the five children had a clear history of exposure to patients with novel coronavirus pneumonia.

Wang Yanli, a doctor at Wuhan Children's Hospital, said that all the children were admitted with fever, cough and pneumonia. During the treatment, the children’s vital signs were stable and their condition was relatively stable.

The immune function of children is immature so they are susceptible to respiratory system infections, said Fang Yurong, a doctor at the hospital.

After discharge, they are being quarantined for two weeks and will contact the hospital if there are any additional symptoms.
