A two-year-old golden snub-nosed monkey, the first of the species born in Hong Kong, returned to its hometown in Sichuan province on the Chinese mainland Thursday.

The monkey baby Lokie arrived in Chengdu, capital of Sichuan, at around 3:40 a.m. Thursday. Lokie will be kept in quarantine for one month at the Chengdu Zoo.

Lokie was born in the Hong Kong Ocean Park in April 2017. He is the first baby of the female monkey Lele and male Qiqi, who were sent to the Ocean Park from the Chengdu Zoo in 2012 and 2015, respectively.

Prior to Lokie's departure, the monkey parents gave birth to their second son in the Ocean Park on March 29.

The endangered species are mainly found in Sichuan, Gansu and Shaanxi provinces, as well as Shennongjia Nature Reserve in Hubei Province. There are around 16,000 golden snub-nosed monkeys living in the wild in China.
