Five miners were trapped in a coal mine in Yan'an city, northwest China's Shaanxi Province, on Monday, according to Xinhua News Agency. 

The incident happened at about 9:50 a.m. Rescue efforts are underway.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the incident.
