Former Inner Mongolia vice governor's bribery case first trial opens

The Dalian Intermediate People's Court of Liaoning Province Thursday opened the first trial of Bai Xiangqun, former vice governor of north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, on charges of bribery, corruption, insider trading and leaking insider information.

Bai Xiangqun was charged with accepting money and property worth more than 85.15 million yuan (about $12.69 million) to benefit organizations and individuals relating to project investments and mineral exploitation between 1999 and 2018.

He allegedly took advantage of his various posts to facilitate the illegal possession of public property on five occasions between 2008 and 2012, earning 7.12 million yuan.

He was also accused of insider trading and leaking inside information, illegally earning more than 17.17 million yuan and 40.52 million yuan, respectively.

Bai pleaded guilty and expressed remorse in the court. The verdict will be announced in due course.
