In the early morning of Friday, 100,000 kilograms of fresh fish were transported to Wuhan from Xianning, an adjoining city, in an effort to balance the epicenter's demand and market supply. The batch of fresh fish was going to be distributed to 11 different districts in the city.

This fish is a donation from the Xianning government. According to Changjiang Daily, Xianning will donate a total of 2 million kilograms of fresh fish to the people of Wuhan.

The fish will be delivered to each household door-to-door.

Priority will be given to the elderly, and those families in financial difficulty or hit by the coronavirus.

This followed after Xi's inspection in Wuhan, during which he stressed the importance of ensuring "the supply of daily necessities".

"Closely monitor the market supply and demand and price fluctuation to ensure the supply of daily necessities such as rice, flour, other grains, oil, meat, poultry, eggs and milk, and ensure these daily necessities are easy to access in the 'last kilometer'. Wuhan people like eating fresh fish, so we should supply more if we can …" Xi said during the inspection tour.
