China suspends planned additional tariffs on some US products

China suspended the planned additional tariffs on some US products to be implemented at 12:01 pm on December 15, the Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council said Sunday.

The suspension covers the 10-percent and 5-percent additional tariffs, respectively, on the imported products, according to the commission.

Besides, the country will continue to suspend its additional tariffs on US-made vehicles and auto parts.

The decisions were made to implement the results of recent trade talks between the two sides and in accordance with China's laws and regulations on customs, foreign trade and tariffs as well as the basic principles of international laws, according to the commission. (Xinhua)

China's cultural industry sees robust growth

China's cultural industry posted robust revenue and profit growth in 2018, the result of the fourth national economic census showed.

By the end of 2018, the combined revenue of the cultural sector stood at 13 trillion yuan, up 55.5 percent from 2013, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

Profits of major cultural enterprises reached 797.14 billion yuan, rising 68.8 percent from the end of 2013. (Xinhua)

Schools, metro stations shut after violence in Indian capital

Schools and Delhi Metro services have been shut down in various parts of Southeast Delhi in the wake of Sunday evening's intense violence.

Violent mobs had set ablaze various buses belonging to the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) on Sunday evening even as thousands of people indulged in scuffles with Delhi police personnel after a protest turned violent.

According to the latest reports, hundreds of protesters were shouting slogans against the Delhi police in front of the police headquarters Sunday evening. (Xinhua)

US to announce 4,000-troop drawdown from Afghanistan

The Trump administration will announce as early as this week plans to withdraw around 4,000 troops from Afghanistan, US media reported.

Talks between the US and the Taliban resumed a week ago as the parties sought a path to reduce violence or even reach a ceasefire.

They were paused by Washington on Thursday, however, after an attack by the militant group near a key US air base north of Kabul that left two civilians dead and dozens injured.

Currently, there are 13,000 US troops in Afghanistan. (AFP)

Botswana bans hunters after killing of research elephant

Botswana’s government has revoked the licenses of two professional hunters who shot dead a research elephant and then destroyed its collar in an attempt to hide the evidence.

The shooting recalled the killing of Cecil the lion by a US hunter in neighboring Zimbabwe in 2015, also an animal that had a research collar and was supposed to be protected. His death provoked outrage on social media.

Botswana President Mokgweetsi Masisi sparked global controversy when he lifted a ban on elephant hunting in May. (Xinhua)

Chinese men's team lose to South Korea 1-0 in EAFF E-1 Football Championship

The Chinese men's team suffered their second consecutive defeat in the EAFF E-1 Football Championship after they lost to South Korea 1-0 on Sunday.

South Korea's skipper Kim Min-jae scored the only goal of the match in the 13th minute when he overpowered his Chinese marker to head in a corner kick from teammate Ju Se-jong.

China, who lost to Japan 2-1 in their first match of the tournament, created only two shots, both by striker Dong Xuesheng. (Xinhua)
