In an effort to level the playing field among students pursing a higher education, China’s Ministry of Education announced the country's college admission exam will no longer include factors the once favored those with special abilities and talents.

The ministry said the move will lead to a quality-oriented exam and educational fairness.

In the past, students would receive extra points if they had special athletic abilities or had won major academic competitions.

Beginning this year, college admission exam will be administered with a focus on six tasks, including safety, stability, confidentiality, and penalty enforcement against those found to be in violation of academic regulations. (People’s Daily app)

Last week, Russian astronomers discovered a newly-created black hole and dedicated it to renowned English physicist Stephen Hawking.

Two days after Hawking’s passing, Russian scientists from Moscow State University observed a "gamma-ray burst” caused by the collapse of a star that left a black hole in its place.

While these bursts occur almost daily, it is almost impossible for a telescope to capture the energy release, which can last anywhere from milliseconds to tens of seconds. (People’s Daily app)
