The Chinese government has decided to donate $20 million to the World Health Organization (WHO) to support it in carrying out international cooperation in fighting the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, the WHO, under the leadership of Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus, has played an important role in promoting other countries to strengthen their prevention awareness and tackle the epidemic in a scientific and rational way, and in helping relevant countries improve their health system capacity, which has been widely recognized by the international community.

China highly appreciates WHO's understanding and support of its work in epidemic prevention and control. (Xinhua)

Saudi Arabia has reportedly detained three senior members of the Saudi royal family including Prince Ahmed bin Abdulaziz, a younger full brother of King Salman, and the monarch's nephew Prince Mohammed bin Nayef.

According to the Wall Street Journal, both princes, once potential contenders for the throne, were accused by the Saudi royal court of "plotting a coup to unseat the king and the crown prince." They were taken from their homes early Friday by royal guards.

In 2017, the crown prince locked up hundreds of royal relatives and wealthy businessmen in a Ritz-Carlton hotel, marking the first sign of his iron grip on the kingdom. (CGTG)

Clashes between Greek riot police and migrants attempting to cross the border from Turkey erupted anew Friday as European Union foreign ministers criticized Turkey for using migrants’ desperation “for political purposes.”

Turkish leader Erdogan has demanded that Europe shoulder more of the burden of caring for refugees. But the EU insists it is abiding by a 2016 deal in which it gave Turkey billions in refugee aid in return for keeping refugees on its soil. (AP)

FAA seeks $19.7 million penalty against Boeing over sensors

US Federal regulators want to fine Boeing $19.68 million for installing sensors that the agency says might not have been compatible with a system pilots use to see instrument readings.

The sensors make it possible for pilots to use “heads-up” systems that display altitude, airspeed and other information on a glass screen in front of them so they don’t have to look down, away from the windshield.

The Federal Aviation Administration notified Boeing of the proposed fine on Friday and gave the company 30 days to pay or respond to the allegations. The sensors at issue were installed on nearly 800 planes. (AP)

US vodka distiller Tito's has warned buyers that making hand sanitizer out of its liquor will not help them fight off the coronavirus, in response to a surge of internet users boasting of making their own moonshine virus protection.

Tito's Vodka took to Twitter to urge people to heed the guidelines of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) about the use of hand sanitizer.

"Per the CDC, hand sanitizer needs to contain at least 60 percent alcohol. Tito's Handmade Vodka is 40 percent alcohol, and therefore does not meet the current recommendation of the CDC," the distiller said. (AFP)
