A Chinese health official on Friday called for implementing COVID-19 containment measures in detail to forestall a virus resurgence.

Song Shuli, a spokesperson for the National Health Commission (NHC), made the remarks at a press conference in Beijing.

Noting that the number of COVID-19 patients receiving treatment had dropped to 91 on the Chinese mainland by Thursday, Song underscored the number of domestic infections had risen for three consecutive days, and arduous work remains to prevent a resurgence.

Song also called for targeted efforts to tighten virus prevention and control measures in major regions and at venues, and further efforts to find and plug containment loopholes. (Xinhua)

Chinese researchers have developed a prediction model to help identify COVID-19 patients' risk of developing critical illnesses, according to the Guangzhou Institute of Respiratory Health.

Researchers developed the model based on clinical data of 1,590 COVID-19 patients. They screened 72 clinical factors and identified 10 key risk factors that could be combined to help predict the development of critical illnesses, including chest radiography abnormality, age, hemoptysis, dyspnea, unconsciousness, and comorbidities.

They validated the prediction model on 710 patients, and results showed that the accuracy rate reached more than 88 percent. (Xinhua)

A Missouri man who was planning to bomb a Kansas City-area hospital killed himself in March as FBI agents served a probable cause arrest warrant, the FBI said Friday.

Investigators said Timothy Wilson,36, was distressed by the government’s response to the coronavirus crisis and motivated by racial and religious animus.

Wilson considered attacking the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas, before settling on a plan to park a vehicle loaded with explosives and detonate it in the parking lot of the Belton Regional Medical Center in Cass County, investigators state in court documents. (AP)
