G7 summit clouded by heated discussions over tariffs

The G7 2018 summit kicked off on Friday in Canada, with both days marred by the US’ tariff threats and the early departure of US President Donald Trump before the final summit announcement.

Host Canada and its European allies are striving to hold together a united front to oppose Trump's tariffs on aluminum, steel, cars and other exports.

Trump told other G7 leaders that the US wanted a quick end to trade practices that he says have led to an exodus of American companies and jobs to other countries.

Trump left the summit on Saturday morning, before the discussion on climate change, to prepare for his June 12 meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore. (People’s Daily app - Reuters)
