Xi announces opening of Beijing Daxing International Airport
Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday announced the official opening of the Beijing Daxing International Airport.
Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, attended the operation ceremony of the airport on Wednesday morning.
Xi stressed that the new airport, which was built in less than five years and put into operation smoothly, has shown China's prowess in engineering construction.
It is also a display of the political advantages of the CPC leadership and China's socialist system that can mobilize all sources to make great achievements, said Xi. (Xinhua)
HKSAR chief executive, 4 gov't secretaries to attend first 'Community Dialogue'
The government of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) said on Wednesday that Chief Executive Carrie Lam and four secretaries of the government will attend the first "Community Dialogue" session to respond to public views and questions.
Lam, together with Secretary for Home Affairs Lau Kong-wah, Secretary for Food and Health Sophia Chan, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Edward Yau and Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Patrick Nip, will attend the session on Thursday evening, a HKSAR government spokesman said in a press release.
Participants will be invited to express their views by drawing ballots. The speaking time for each participant will be set at about three minutes with a view to allowing more participants to express their views. (Xinhua)
China completes world's longest cross-sea road-rail bridge
China on Wednesday completed the main structure of the world's longest cross-sea road-rail bridge in its southeastern province of Fujian.
The bridge, which is expected to open to traffic next year, can help shorten travel time from two hours to half an hour between Fuzhou, capital city of Fujian Province and Pingtan, a pilot zone set up to facilitate trade and cultural exchanges across the Taiwan Strait. (Xinhua)
Abe says determined to meet Kim Jong Un 'face to face'
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Tuesday that he is determined to meet DPRK leader Kim Jong Un "face to face, without attaching any conditions."
During the General Debate of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly, Abe said he wants Japan to normalize relations with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) through resolving their outstanding issues including the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and the abduction of Japanese citizens. UK opposition leader rejects PM’s election call
Britain’s main opposition leader has rejected Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s taunting demand for a no-confidence vote in the government, saying he won’t support a new election unless a no-deal Brexit is ruled out.
Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn says Johnson should secure a delay to Britain’s EU exit — scheduled for Oct. 31 — and “then let’s have an election.”
And he called for Johnson to resign over his illegal suspension of Parliament. (AP)
Disney's theme parks are going vegan
Plant-based food options will be added to every dining location in Disney's theme parks in the United States, reported Yahoo Lifestyle.
Disney announced that Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort will begin offering over 400 vegan dishes at all of their quick-service and table-service restaurants.
Florida's Walt Disney World is planning to go vegan in early October, followed by Anaheim, California's Disneyland in spring 2020, said the report. (China Plus)
Dern, Neill, Goldblum to return for ‘Jurassic World 3’
Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern and Sam Neill will reprise their “Jurassic Park” roles in the upcoming “Jurassic World 3.”
Their castings were announced Tuesday night by executive producer and director Colin Trevorrow at a screening of “Jurassic World”.
Trevorrow, who helmed 2015′s “Jurassic World,” will direct the next installment following J.A. Bayona’s “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.” Those two films grossed $1.67 billion and $1.3 billion, respectively. (AP)
