Chinese President Xi Jinping has stressed efforts to consolidate a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation, calling on people of all ethnic groups to unite and strive to achieve common prosperity and development and create a bright future.
Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks Friday at a gathering to honor national role models for ethnic unity and progress.
The national rejuvenation requires all ethnic groups to strive together, hand in hand and shoulder to shoulder, Xi said. (Xinhua)
China, Kiribati formally restore diplomatic ties
China formally resumes bilateral ties with Kiribati on Saturday after the Pacific island state severed “diplomatic ties” with the island of Taiwan on September 20.
Both the Chinese and Kiribati governments agree to develop a friendly relationship on the basis of mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, mutual non-aggression, non-interference in each other's internal affairs, equality and mutual benefit, and peaceful coexistence.
The Kiribati government acknowledges the one-China principle, and as the island of Taiwan is an inseparable part of China, it will immediately cut "diplomatic ties" with Taiwan. (People's Daily app)
HKSAR gov't rolls out measures to address economic challenges
China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) government has recently introduced a number of measures to address the challenges of the current economic environment and alleviate unemployment in Hong Kong.
A special program that allows employees to upgrade their skills and learn about other industries is open for enrollment from October.
The Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC) has also announced a series of measures, which include enhancement of some funding arrangements and the freezing of fees, to ease funding problems when small and medium enterprises and start-ups carry out projects to help them control their operating costs. Erdogan vows to continue oil, natural gas trade with Iran
Turkish President Recep Erdogan vowed Ankara would continue to purchase oil and natural gas from Iran despite US sanctions in comments published on Friday.
"It is impossible for us to cancel relations with Iran with regards to oil and natural gas. We will continue to buy our natural gas from there," Erdogan told Turkish reporters before leaving New York where he was attending the UN General Assembly.
The United States reimposed sanctions on Iran after pulling out of the landmark 2015 nuclear deal, and says it aims to reduce Tehran's energy sales to zero. (Xinhua)
Scientists discover oldest galaxy cluster
Astronomers have discovered a 13-billion-year-old galaxy cluster that is the earliest ever observed, according to a paper released Friday, a finding that may hold clues about how the universe developed.
The discovery of the protocluster, a collection of 12 galaxies, suggests that large cosmic structures were present in the very early stages of the universe, the researchers said. (AFP)
800 mln trips expected during China's National Day holiday
Chinese tourists will make nearly 800 million domestic trips and another 7.5 million overseas during the upcoming week-long National Day holiday, said a report released Friday.
Ctrip, China's major online travel agency, said in the report that its registered users from over 500 Chinese cities have booked trips to 100 countries and regions online for the holiday starting on Oct. 1. (Xinhua)

China powered to their ninth straight victory and a perfect 9-0 record at the Volleyball Women's World Cup after outplaying the Netherlands 3-1 on Friday.
