China, Kiribati formally restore diplomatic ties

China formally resumes bilateral ties with Kiribati on Saturday after the Pacific island state severed “diplomatic ties” with the island of Taiwan on September 20.

The Kiribati government acknowledges the one-China principle, and as the island of Taiwan is an inseparable part of China, it will immediately cut "diplomatic ties" with Taiwan. (People's Daily app)
