Gas leaks caused Hebei truck blast: probe

A truck explosion was caused by a leak in the vinyl chloride gas cabinet of Hebei Shenghua Chemical Company, and the chemical spread to the road outside the plant, according to initial investigation results.

The Zhangjiakou Municipal Government of Hebei Province briefed the media on the investigation results on Friday. 

A car explosion outside a chemical factory that killed 23 people released no pollutants into the environment, said officials in Zhangjiakou.

After on-site monitoring by the environment protection department, no pollutants have been detected, with no pollution in the vicinity, authorities announced Thursday night. 

The death toll from the blast rose to 23 after one body was found Wednesday afternoon, local authorities said. Most of the victims were truck drivers inside trucks lined up outside a chemical factory.

A car-blast outside a chemical factory that killed 23 people has released no pollutants into the environment, said officials in Zhangjiakou, Hebei Province. 

After on-site monitoring by the environment protection department, no pollutants have detected, and it can be determined that there is no pollution to the surrounding ambient air, local authorities announce Thursday night.

The death toll from a devastating blast rose to 23 after one body was found Wednesday afternoon during the search and rescue operation in the North China city, said local authorities. Victims are mostly the drivers of trucks that were lined up outside a chemical factory.

Investigators think car explosion triggered blast that killed 22 in Zhangjiakou, Hebei Province

A vehicle waiting at the entrance of the Hebei Shenghua Chemical Co exploded, ignited the surrounding vehicles, and leading to the deaths of 22 people, an employee of the Zhangjiakou Municipal authority told the news website thepaper.cn. 

An employee surnamed Wu with Zhangjiakou City Safety Production Supervision Administration said that evidence including the identities of drivers of these vehicles and the identities of all casualties are being verified. 

The specific cause of the explosion yet to be found. Experts are on the way to conduct onsite investigations and there has not been a second explosion.

22 killed, 22 others wounded in explosion in Zhangjiakou, Hebei Province

Twenty-two people were killed and 22 others wounded in an explosion at a chemical factory in Zhangjiakou, North China’s Hebei Province.

The injured are hospitalized. 

After midnight on Wednesday, an explosion occurred in the vicinity of Hebei Shenghua Chemical Co  in Qiaodong District, Zhangjiakou.

Thirty-eight large trucks and 12 small cars fought the fire in the accident, according to preliminary investigation. On-site search and rescue work and investigation on the cause of the accident are still under intense progress. 

The public should avoid the accident scene to make rescue work more orderly.
