Gates Foundation donates $5 million to contain novel coronavirus outbreak

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation announced a donation of $5 million and offered technological and expert support to help China contain the novel coronavirus especially in accelerating the emergency intervention and studies of the pandemics as well as research and development of medical products.

The Gates Foundation said it's discussing with governmental agencies, research institutes and corporations to mobilize the global networks and expert pool of the foundation to offer funding, technology and global collaboration in various fields to contain the coronavirus outbreak.

"We pay the highest tribute to those who fight on the forefronts to contain the novel coronavirus epidemic. Improving the capacities to prevent and control pandemics as well as enhancing the building of a public health system globally, has always been a focus of our foundation. We hope to fight together with our partners to counter future challenges," said Li Yinuo, director of the China Program at the Gates Foundation.
