Born in 1999, Lu Kaigang, known as Luxianren online, grew up with his grandmother in a remote village of South China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. After dropping out of middle school school, Lu worked odd jobs including as a waiter, a hairdresser and a garment factory worker.

One day Lu caught a glimpse of a fashion catwalk video on his roommate's phone. From that day on, the dream of becoming a model was deeply rooted in the young man’s heart.

Lu began collecting scraps of fabric from the factory and stitched them into a colorful outfit. His workmate filmed him walking the catwalk in the outfit. In the video, the young man was so confident that even his outfit looked high-end.

After much hesitation, Lu quit his factory job and went back to his hometown. He spent his days studying and imitating the moves of celebrity supermodels including the look in their eyes and facial expressions, not missing a detail.

Lu adopted the style of female models. He improved his makeup skills and fashion taste. He designed fashion pieces out of waste products.

He started to film videos in 2018 and the hard work paid off the next year when he became an online sensation posing in avantgarde clothes on village dirt roads. Lu’s unique catwalk videos went viral, garnering more than half a million likes.

It took Lu three years to make it from a remote village to an international runway, landing at fashion weeks in Paris and London. Without caring what others might think, Lu has pursued and achieved his dream.
