The 6th World Internet Conference will be held from October 20-22 in Wuzhen, east China's Zhejiang Province. Different from the "1+2" structure of the previous, this year's conference will add a sector of global internet competition, called “Straight to Wuzhen”, forming a new pattern of "1+3" hosting the conference.

The conference will be co-hosted by the Cyberspace Administration of China and the People's Government of Zhejiang Province. Themed around “Intelligent Interconnection for Openness and Cooperation: Building a Community with a Shared Future in Cyberspace,” the summit focuses on enhancing the visitors' and users' experience by introducing technologies and products that integrate 5G, AI and VR with people's daily lives.

As one of the important and innovative parts of the conference, the global internet competition is an international event focusing on the digital economy within the year. The competition aims to attract internet elites from home and abroad to Wuzhen, jointly explore new technologies, patterns and commercial forms of business for the development of the internet, and build a global internet platform.

The contest has attracted nearly 400 teams, including more than 100 overseas teams, from digital economy fields such as big data, Internet of Things and artificial intelligence. Among them, dozens of projects have invested more than 100 million yuan ($14.3 million), showing broad coverage and high project quality. The competition has been selected by the domestic and foreign venture investment institutions and industry experts, and technical experts. Thirty-four teams were selected on October 19 in the Wuzhen semi-final.

The semifinal and final will be held on October 19 and 22, with the highest award reaching 10 million yuan ($1.43 million).

"The contest will be dedicated to promoting global internet cooperation and innovation, stimulating the vitality of internet entrepreneurship, identifying young internet talent, promoting accurate connection of the internet industry worldwide and contributing to the global internet governance of the digital economy," said Wu Junqing, deputy head of the Department of Economy and Information Technology of Zhejiang. The conference will continue last year's series of industrial cooperation activities, planning and organizing "1 digital economy industry cooperation conference plus 1 capital blind date plus 10 thematic matchmaking meetings", a total of 12 cooperation and exchange activities, Wu said.
