Heavy rain has left at least two people dead and two others missing in south China's Guangdong Province, forcing an evacuation of over 100,000 people.

Footage showing firefighters rescuing babies in Shantou, one of the hardest-hit areas in Guangdong Province, has gone viral on social media.

More than 500,000 people in the city, including women and children, have been affected by the heavy rain that started earlier this week.

In Huizhou, a woman 38 weeks pregnant was saved from being trapped in flood water.

As of Sunday, the rain started to slow down. But local departments are still busy dealing with the aftermath.

Flood cleanup activities, as well as power and water supply restoration is currently underway.

Local governments have opened hundreds of emergency shelters for affected residents while offering medicine, food and daily necessities.

The rains have reportedly affected more than one million residents across 27 counties in eastern Guangdong, and have caused more than a billion yuan worth of damage.

China is forced to evacuate hundreds of thousands of residents in flood-prone regions every year.

This summer, people in southern China are still waiting for the rainy season to end.
