A pedestrian braves heavy snow in Weihai, East China's Shandong province, on Dec 7.

Weihai issued a yellow warning for snowstorms on Friday morning as the nation observes Major Snow, one of the 24 solar terms of the lunar calendar.

During Major Snow, the snow becomes heavy and begins to accumulate on the ground, and the temperature drops significantly.

Major Snow is the 21st solar term of the year, beginning this year on Dec 7 and ending Dec 21.
