All customs officers in Hong Kong are required to adopt the Chinese-style goose-stepping at ceremonies, parades and other occasions in uniform, the Customs and Excise Department announced on Tuesday.
Wednesday marks Youth Day, a day to commemorate the May 4th Movement with patriotism at the core of its spirit. The adoption of the Chinese-style goose-stepping reflects HK’s sense of belonging and patriotism for the country and demonstrates the disciplinary forces of the HKSAR, said the Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department.
Chinese-style goose-stepping emphasizes orderliness and cooperation. Every movement requires to be strong and powerful, showing the majesty, confidence and power of the troops.
In recent years, the Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department has gradually adopted Chinese-style goose-stepping to better integrate into the national system and enrich the content of “one country, two systems”.
