Two Hong Kong opposition lawmakers have been officially ousted on Tuesday after senior judges of the special administrative region decided not to allow them to challenge lower court rulings that held their elections null and void.

The Court of Final Appeal upheld the decision that Au Nok-hin and Gary Fan Kwok-wai were not duly elected, as they ran in place of two other opposition lawmakers who got disqualified from a March 2018 by-election.

Earlier in July, Au had been arrested for assaulting and obstructing police officers.
