Private donations from China’s Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) have exceeded 1 billion yuan (about $143 million), which fully demonstrates Hong Kong people’s great affection for the motherland, said Beijing’s liaison office on Monday.

Hong Kong tycoon Li Ka-shing, real estate developer Xu Jiayin and Country Garden Group founder Yang Guoqiang are among the top donors.

Some social societies and organizations also bought medical necessities like face masks, goggles, gloves and disinfectant from overseas and managed to ship them to the forefront of the battle against the novel coronavirus epidemic in mainland, said the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in HKSAR in a statement.
