HONG KONG, July 1 (Xinhua) -- Hong Kong's Center for Health Protection (CHP) reported on Wednesday 28 additional confirmed cases of COVID-19, taking the total number of confirmed cases in Hong Kong to 1,233.

The newly reported cases involve 12 males and 16 females aged between three and 46. Except one of them, all had travel history during the incubation period.

The case without travel history involves a 46-year-old female with good past health. She is a family member and a household close contact of two males who were confirmed on Tuesday with COVID-19 virus infection.

She developed symptoms including fever, malaise and cough on June 26, and was admitted to hospital for isolation upon confirmation of the two cases in her family on Tuesday. She was subsequently tested positive for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2.

The woman had no travel history, but the two family members had travel history to the United States. The case is classified as epidemiologically linked with imported cases.

The woman sought medical advice from a private practitioner on June 26, and had also visited some vegetables and meat stalls and a supermarket before admission to hospital.

As a precautionary measure for early detection of possible transmission into the community, the CHP has arranged with the Housing Department to distribute deep throat saliva specimens bottles to residents in the building where the woman resides starting Wednesday.

The CHP will also distribute specimen bottles to staff of the premises the patient visited during the infectious period.
