HONG KONG, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) - Hong Kong's Center for Health Protection (CHP) reported 28 additional confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, taking its total tally to 10,399.
The new cases included 26 local infections, of which six had an unknown origin. There were also over 40 cases tested positive preliminarily, according to a CHP press briefing.
Albert Au, principal medical and health officer of the CHP's Communicable Disease Branch, said to the media that although the number of daily new cases dropped on Saturday, one cannot rely on single-day figures to assess the epidemic situation.
The overall number of confirmed cases was still high over the past week and there were day-to-day fluctuations, Au said, urging the public to continue to stay vigilant.
According to Hong Kong's Hospital Authority, 836 COVID-19 patients are currently being treated in public hospitals and the community treatment facility at AsiaWorld-Expo, and 32 patients are in critical condition.
