Huawei Chairman Liang Hua speaks at a group interview on December 25, 2018.

Despite the external pressures, Chinese tech giant Huawei had a solid achievement last year, especially on its 5G network services, Liang Hua, who took office as Huawei’s Chairman in March, told reporters on Tuesday.

So far, the company has attained 26 commercial contracts for 5G (5th generation wireless systems), and signed cooperation agreements with more than 50 global business partners, Liang said in his first round table interview with a group of reporters since becoming the chairman.

The company has already shipped more than 10,000 5G-oriented base stations, he added.

Huawei was thrust into the media limelight recently following Canada’s arrest of its CFO Meng Wanzhou on behalf of the US on December 1.

Liang rebuked the “security threat” speculations, saying that Huawei will prove itself and maintain consumers’ trust through fact and hardwork.

“Huawei considers security as its top creed while conducting business worldwide,” he responded. “Facing a more open and versatile internet environment, we are going to spend $2 billion in building a whole process of product safety system.”

Liang also refuted the rumor that Huawei’s 5G was denied. The business and negotiations with dealers from Germany, France, Japan and New Zealand still went smoothly, he said.
